Drivers these Days

I’m going to start with a story. The other day, I was crossing the street to go to the supermarket. The light was green and I had the right of way. Some guy stopped at the red light beside me, and began to turn right, not seeing me right beside him. He stopped at least three feet from me. This is the third time that a car has been that close to hitting me. The quality of drivers these days are terrible. You have the people that when driving blare that Miley Cyrus, text their besties, do their makeup, and drink Starbucks at the same time! Like come on, you have a two ton car and I weigh 190 pounds. If you hit me going 60 kilometers per hour who do you think is going to end up in the hospital? Try to only do only one thing when you’re driving and that’s paying attention to the road. Also, everyone has that one friend or relative that you hate being in the car with, due to their road rage. Normally these people are some pretty big guys, pretty scary, so their allowed to road rage, cause what are you goanna do, get out and fight them, yeah fat chance. If you are goanna yell at someone, and that person is doing the speed limit, you really need to check yourself, because you got issues. I hate whenever I drive with my dad because he likes to do everything while he drives. Text, eat, everything. Who do you hate to drive with and why? Leave your answer in the comments.

  1. There can be many drivers who do not pay attention to the road, whether it's a young or old person, experienced or not, and some may have other things on their mind while driving, and zone out completely where they actually forget they are behind the wheel. I believe it has also happened to most of us, not saying all, but I myself know a few people who get distracted, and forget the surroundings altogether; even I have sometimes.

I feel as though you're referring to girls mostly, when you say " blaring Miley Cyrus, texting their besties, makeup and starbucks." Are you? And if so, I think you would have to do more research on that part, because from my point of view, even though I am a girl, and I am not saying guys are worse with their attention spam, but I think the gender has nothing to do with it, if that's what you were trying to point out, It's really how they understand the road, and how cautious they are. For me personally, who I drive with, usually happen to be the boys who pay less attention to speed, and the other surroundings.

To that point, we all have our opinions, and this is your blog for rants, but I feel you should have specified who you made those comments towards, because you only pointed out the flaws I feel refer more to girls, and if the topic is "drivers these days" should be everyone in general in my opinion.

  2. Katarina has a great point here. I definitely felt you were targeting women in your examples, when there are studies that show that men are more distracted than women. I've seen men using electric shavers while they're driving. So it's not just women, and I'm not saying that it's just men.
Lots of people have been distracted while driving, but that's not just due to material objects, it could also be from something going on in their life or a conversation they are having with a passenger. Personally, I have been in a car with someone and they have completely missed their turn because of our conversation. Reality is that almost everyone has been distracted while driving at some point.
Saying that, it's your opinion and you did make some strong points about drivers but the way I see it is that "everybody makes mistakes, everybody has those days" from the Miley Cyrus song Nobody's Perfect (referring to Miley again).

  3. Yeah, I agree with what Katarina and Jacqueline said about targeting women in this rant. Iust like to say that a similar thing happened to me a while back, and it was a guy driving. It was at the corner of Lancaster and Louisa and I was on the right side of the street, and I was going to cross over to the left. This big truck was at the corner of Louisa and he was turning right. He was only looking left to see if any cars were coming from Lancaster. I got halfway past his truck when he started to turn. He was less than a foot away from me, and i had to back up all the way onto the sidewalk before he even realized I was there, and then he looked at me all pissed off like it was my fault. So yeah, it definitely isn't only women that are bad drivers. But the person I don't really like being in the car with while she's driving is my sister, and that's only because she sometimes turns very sharply; other than that though she's a good driver.
